client’s journey: Liam
Each session with a client is unique to them and how we work together. What they want from the session and what they need from the session. It’s all personal because it is entirely dependent on the information provided by them - mind & body. A few clients have encouraged and given permission for me to share parts of their treatments to provide an insight on the ways one can bring aromatherapy into their day to day. Here, I will be sharing some focus points from their journeys…
-Liam-
I have been given the privilege to work along side a client, Liam, who is training for the London marathon in April. If you don’t have any experience with running a marathon (which I don’t really) you can only imagine the mental and physical demand it has on the day, but also more importantly the toll of the training leading up to it.
Liam has unfortunately faced a hurdle early on in his training with his achilles. After consulting with a physiotherapist, running tests and examinations, he was cleared from any significant injury. Nonetheless, the area had been irritated and restricted. His symptoms included inflammation, local pain, stiffness and the area felt hot. Ultimately, the focus point was to help soothe the area so that his movement was not so limited. Together, we decided to begin a treatment plan to help support him physically & mentally through his training going forward.
Our first port of call was to help with the discomfort he felt and to create a blend of oils focusing on the stiffness, inflammation and the heat itself. I designed a blend focusing on pain relief, cooling, regulation, and soothing - using oils like: True Lavender & Sweet Marjoram. Using gentle massage techniques to apply the blend along with a bespoke essential oil blend for him to use at home. Using the blend at home became an essential part of the treatment, mainly so that the oils could soak in and go to work nightly before/after compresses and elevation.
After a couple of sessions together, I received a text from Liam: “You’re a Wizard!”
No Wizards here. Just a very keen aromatherapist.
With less inflammation & more stability - for our next sessions, we are going to focus on invigorating the area more, preparing his ankle to get back into a more sustainable and consistent running schedule. Some spicier oils will definitely be coming into the mix. More updates to come..
If you’d like to book in for a consultation or have any questions, please do get in touch via email. I’d love to hear from you!
Liam is running the London Marathon for the RNLI - a charity that is close to his heart and is an institution run solely on donation & volunteers. If you’d like to support him and the RNLI, you can do so here. Every contribution helps!
Note: Our treatment plan will be running alongside advice from his physiotherapist.
*If you are struggling with an injury, it is best to seek medical attention first. Aromatherapy at home should always be done within safe dilution guidelines.
